How much homework is too much?

How much homework is too much? It’s a valid question. It’s also a question I’m glad Brookstone School is not afraid to ask. Last year, our Upper School teachers began doing some research into the amount of homework students had to do each night. Obviously, there are lots of factors that go into the amount of time each student spends on homework, such as after school activities, technology, and routine bedtimes, but regardless, an informal survey of our students from last year indicated over 70% of our students said that […]

Back to School with our Teachers

As a Brookstone alumna and parent, I’ve always thought one of the most powerful things about being a part of the Brookstone family is the relationships students and teachers share. Those relationships are an integral part of what makes Brookstone the exceptional school it is. For generations, Brookstone teachers have poured into their students in ways that have transformed lives and impacted the world. I am so blessed to have had the teachers I did during my years here as a Brookstone student, and now, to be surrounded by remarkable […]

The Importance of Play

As a child growing up on a dairy farm in the small town of Madison, Georgia, my friends and I spent our days entertaining ourselves outdoors.  We only came home for a few minutes to grab a bite to eat before racing back outside to find something else to climb, ride, or even burn. THE YEAR IN REVIEW My goal is to uphold Brookstone’s reputation as The Independent School of Columbus, and I truly believe we are the best school, public or private, in the Columbus area. To make sure we are always striving for […]

Graduation from a Grandparent’s Perspective

We are so blessed to have the greatest group of parents and grandparents as part of our  Brookstone family! So we were thrilled to hear from one of our own after this year’s commencement exercises. Don Murphy, a marriage and family therapist and devoted grandfather, was so kind to jot down some reflections after this year’s ceremony and even kinder to allow me to share. Enjoy his thoughtful and sweet summary of the weekend’s events! GRADUATION OBSERVED Among the iconic images of American graduations is that of mortarboards being gleefully tossed […]

Every year, it is a beautiful week full of tradition, ceremony, and celebration. On Thursday evening before graduation, the Senior Faculty award dinner was held at the Rivermill Event Center. As always, the event was lovely in every way and a fitting way to honor our graduates and commend them for their hard work and accomplishments. Then on Saturday morning, Baccalaureate was held in our Illges […]

Yesterday morning was one of those mornings that just made you smile. It was one of those times where you remember all the reasons you love this school and how great it is to be a part of it. We started the morning with our annual Yearbook Assembly, where the students unveiled this year’s book, featuring the most beautiful artwork by local artist, Helen Johnson. It is fitting to have a yearbook this gorgeous to celebrate the 50th Edition! To make the morning even more special, the Senior Class chose […]
