The Grammys recently happened and the Oscars are coming soon, so it’s fitting that there are so many awards being won here at school.

Congratulations to all of the following students!

Connie Tran recently won First Chair in the Oboe and Michael Smith won Second Chair in the French Horn at District 3 Honor Band.

8th Grader, Manav Shaw, was one of the top ten spellers in the GISA regional spelling bee and is advancing onto the GISA district spelling bee in the coming weeks!

Every single one of our science fair participants won in their respective divisions in the regional science fair!

And what an impressive group of awards they received! Accompanied by biology teachers Dr. Dorothy Cheruiyot on the left and Mrs. Cynthia Lingo on the right, the winners are as follows:

• Jonathan Hart, 12th grade, 1st Place in Earth and Environmental Science, The Effects of Herbicide on Soil Bacteria
• Connie Tran, 11th grade, 1st Place, Plant Sciences, Contaminated Water and Plant Growth
• Uma Alappan, 10th grade, 1st place in Chemistry, Best Overall and Best in Medicine, Think Before You Drink: The Story of Phosphorus
• Rob Simkins, 11th grade, 1st Place in Material Sciences, Simply Sun Trackers
• Koyal Angsikar, 12th grade, 3rd Place, Biomedical and Health Sciences, Creating An Artificial Pancreas
• Kunal Angskiar, 6th grade, 3rd Place, Environmental Engineering, Cooking with a Solar Oven

Our US Robotics team competed recently at the state competition. They did not win, but they made it there, so that is a victory in and of itself!

And last but not least, congratulations to Ariel Steele for being named one of the Rotary Club of Columbus’ STAR Students for 2015-2016. Pictured third from the right, Ariel will now have the opportunity to compete against other STAR students on a regional level.
