Congratulations to sophomores Matthew Hannay, Reed Bickerstaff and senior Imaad Khan, who recently placed 3rd in the annual Lockheed Martin Quest Coding Competition. Held at eleven Lockheed Martin sites world wide, the competition lasted 2.5 hours and the teams had 18 problems to solve. They could choose either Python or Java for each problem, the two languages we teach here in the Programming I & II, (Python) and AP Computer Science and Robotics (Java) classes. One of the great things about a school like Brookstone is the interaction between students in different divisions. Last week, a few of our upper school students spent time with our middle school students with our Girl Talk and Mentoring Men programs. These programs allow for upper school students to visit with the middle schoolers, giving them guidance on how navigate the world of adolescence. This morning, Brookstone held our 8th annual Senior Mentor Breakfast, where seniors pay homage to the many wonderful people who have encouraged them, taught them, motivated them and inspired them over the course of their upper school years. We were fortunate to have alumna, Betsy Covington, Class of 1979, as our key-note speaker. Happy birthday to our very own, the one and only, Ms. Marie Clepper! 🎂🎉 Mrs. Clepper is 85 years young today!!! She’s been our Upper School secretary/queen since 1973 and continues to reign over the Upper School daily. She has truly served generations of Brookstone students and has served them so very well. To honor her birth in appropriate fashion, the Upper School faculty rented a limo and took her out for a night on the town! Here’s to a very special lady! We love you, Ms. Clepper!
Our Golf teams had a great day on the course yesterday! The Girls’ team won 1st place in the region and the boys’ team placed second! Both teams will be moving onto state, which will be hosted by the Cougars in late May. Individually for the girls’ team, freshman Sanders Hinds won 2nd Place Low Medalist and junior Uma Alappan won 5th Place Low Medalist and both were named to the All Area Team. It was an appropriate valentines day to celebrate the grand opening of the Mary Lynne Cumiskey Tennis Complex! A complex that was years in the making, we celebrated Mary Lynne, a teacher, a friend, a coach, and a champion who has LOVED tennis for her entire life.
