Taking Class Outside

“This world is but a canvas to our imagination.” Henry David Thoreau Sentiments like this are one of the reasons we love to get our students outside as much as we can. Having a beautiful campus and wonderful places to gather provides many opportunities for our students and teachers to enjoy being outdoors. So as I walked to the cafeteria last week, I loved spotting Dr. Harkey’s Crime and Punishment class gathered around Courtney’s Pond and discussing Dante’s Inferno. Sometimes, just the very thing you need to inspire good conversation […]

Global Online Academy

When Brookstone became a member of Global Online Academy in 2017, we joined a consortium of elite independent schools committed to developing students through excellent teaching and deep learning in shared, online classrooms. In fact, there are only four other schools in the state of Georgia who are members, Lovett, Savannah Country Day, and Westminster. Brookstone’s partnership with GOA allows eligible students access to specialized courses during which they engage and learn alongside students from around the world. Courses are led by teachers exclusively from member schools, and they all […]

Graduation Festivities Begin!

Wednesday, we kicked off graduation week in full swing! It began with our yearbook assembly! Presented to the students by yearbook editor, Sarah Beth Amos, this year’s theme was “Blueprints.” In her remarks, Sarah Beth said, “This year’s theme is “Blueprints”. If you have ever watched the progress of a major construction project, you may know that it starts with a blueprint. A blueprint is defined as photographic print in blue on white; a detailed plan used as a model to provide guidance. That seemed to us to perfectly represent […]

Seniors’ Last Day!

Yesterday was a bittersweet day as it was the last day of school for our seniors- barring AP exams. And to celebrate the occasion, they donned t-shirts sporting their college or university choice for the next year! Not everyone is pictured, but it was fun to snap a few! So in the coming months, these kids might be saying, “Go Dawgs,” “War Eagle,” “Go Cavs” or “Go Bobcats,” but they will always be Cougars to us! The Class of 2018 has indeed made us proud and we know great things […]

Senior/Faculty Cup 2018

Every spring, our seniors and our faculty members go head to head in a variety of competitions that range from basketball to corn hole to flying paper airplanes! It sounds so simple, but these friendly face-offs are just another example of the strong sense of community and camaraderie that we have here at Brookstone! You just don’t get at other schools! Today was the annual Hamburger Cook-Off! And these kids take their burgers seriously! Though Coach Jimmy Thompson is quite the grill master, the seniors pulled out all the stops! […]
