As a Brookstone alumna and parent, I’ve always thought one of the most powerful things about being a part of the Brookstone family is the relationships students and teachers share. Those relationships are an integral part of what makes Brookstone the exceptional school it is. For generations, Brookstone teachers have poured into their students in ways that have transformed lives and impacted the world. I am so blessed to have had the teachers I did during my years here as a Brookstone student, and now, to be surrounded by remarkable […]

Periodically, we highlight one of our many alums doing extraordinary things! Enjoy this update from Sarah Bufolge Pitzen, Brookstone Class of 2002, currently living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Sarah Bufolge Pitzen, Class of 2002 University of Georgia – B.S. in Psychology; Minor in Spanish and Art History Eastern Virginia Medical School – M.S. in Art Therapy What are you doing now? I have been with The Up Center, a non-profit human services agency, for the past 8 years serving in various roles but primarily as a Clinical Services Supervisor in the Outpatient Counseling department. We are currently embarking on an exciting adventure as we plan to open a military family clinic in partnership with the Cohen Veterans Network, which was founded by philanthropist Steven A. Cohen. As Lead Clinician, I will oversee a team of clinicians to provide evidence-based therapies to veterans and their family members to treat a variety of mental health problems including PTSD, anxiety, depression, adjustment to civilian life, anger, grief and loss, family dynamics, transitional challenges, relationship problems, and child behavioral problems. The Cohen Veterans Network is anticipating our clinic to be one of the highest utilized clinics of all the CVN clinics across the nation due to the strong military presence in our community. The Hampton Roads area is home to one of the world’s largest populations of military personnel, as it is home to the largest Naval base in the world as well as the […]

This past week was spectacular on our campus! The sun was shining, the birds were chirping and everything beautiful about spring was in the air! As we prepared for the annual Spring Arts Festival, our fabulous fine arts department brought art and music outside for everyone to enjoy! So classes of all kinds ventured outdoors, relishing the warmer weather, and learning from the beautiful environment that makes up our campus. It also was time for our third annual Market on the Quad! Gorgeous flowers and delicious homemade goods were on […]
Our students were BUSY over Spring Break! Many were traveling with families or enjoying a staycation at home, but one special group of seniors was able to go on the 19th annual trip to Oxford, England and stay at the Spencer House. The Spencer House on Woodstock Road in Oxford, England is owned by Columbus State University. The purchase of the house was made possible through the generosity of Mr. & Mrs. J. Kyle Spencer, loyal supporters of both CSU and Brookstone School. In 2010, through guidance from Interim Headmaster […]
Our students were busy over spring break (more blog posts to follow!) But one trip, in particular, gave some of our Upper School students the chance of a lifetime – the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall! Karen Hearn, Brookstone Music Director, began rehearsing with 16 students in January for the Children of Peace concert held in Carnegie Hall. Hours and hours of rehearsals were held after school to prepare for this performance. The Brookstone students joined with five other schools from New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, and […]
