Parent Education Opportunities

I am forever grateful for a school that is committed to equipping parents as they raise their children. It’s a beautiful partnership. We hope you can join us for these upcoming events! All School Parent Book Club Dr. Robert Brooks, author of the book, Raising Resilient Children, will be on campus speaking to faculty and parents in November.  In light of his upcoming visit, the BPA and guidance department have organized a “Stress-Free” Parent Book Club to read the book together. Parents school-wide are invited to join in the discussion […]

Madame President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia

Last Thursday, we had the unprecedented privlege of hosting a world leader, Madame President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia, on our campus. After all, it’s not every day you host a  Nobel-Peace Prize winner at school. It was a monumental and joyous occasion. As one of our seniors said with utmost sincerity, “This is the biggest and best thing that we have ever had at Brookstone!  It was amazing!” And it was. It was such an honor to have her visit, but even more so to hear her speak. Filled with […]

Go Cougars! Go Bulldogs!

It was pretty awesome to have three of our alumni on the field at the University of Georgia’s Sanford Stadium this past Saturday as the Georgia Bulldogs took on the Samford Bulldogs. Prather Hudson, Class of 2016, plays for Georgia, Brian Volger, Class of 2010, is a member of the Georgia Athletic Department, and Josh Long, Class of 2017, plays for Samford. And though they are all Bulldogs now, they will always be Cougars to us! Congratulations to all three of these fine athletes! We could not be prouder! Go […]

But it was an exciting day when one of our beloved art teachers, Deana Graham, to showed up to school today decked out in dots to promote the concept of “Making Your Mark!” Inspired by the book, The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds, International Dot Day celebrates the story of a young girl who was challenged by one of her teachers to “make her mark.” Taking that concept to […]

The Legacies of Two Great Men

The Brookstone community lost two incredibly dear and influential members this summer: Mr. Charles J. Cumiskey and Mr. Bill Turner. The impact these two men had on the Brookstone community and the Columbus community at large, cannot be overstated. It is with heavy, but grateful, hearts that we remember their lives and their legacies. Catherine Trotter, one of our long time faculty members, made these remarks to new faculty at the beginning of the year: Two individuals whose influence and impact played an important role in establishing the culture of […]

Be the One Who Serves

We have all been shocked and disheartened at the devastation Hurricane Harvey left in his wake and the question many of us are asking is, “How can we help?” Prompted by the urging of our students, who were asking just that, our upper school jumped into high gear. Dean of Students, Mark Erb, and his wife, Judy, who teaches 2nd grade, volunteered to drive their truck with the drama/band trailer full of supplies to Beaumont, Texas over the weekend. They asked for donations from upper school families alone and were […]

Be The One

We hope by now you’ve seen the city blanketed with the Brookstone Be the One signs! And while many of you know what that means, we wanted to take some time to elaborate as well! Over the course of the past year, we’ve worked to refine our message and develop a way to effectively tell our school’s story. There is so much good going on at Brookstone – how do we best share it all? The end result…Be the One.    Be the One is about so much more than […]
