Cultivating Confidence

I received this email from a parent this week and simply had to share. Do you get Tim Elmore‘s emails?  He sent one about building confidence this week that had 5 ways we can cultivate confidence in students. They are all EXACTLY what Brookstone does and why I’m glad my children are there.  🙂 With that, I simply had to look up the email myself and see to what she was referring. And it’s true – Brookstone works each and every day in a variety of ways to develop these skills in […]

Middle School Trip Week

Part of our philosophy at Brookstone is that some of the best educational experiences occur outside of the classroom. As such, we place such a big emphasis on travel opportunities and experiential learning. This week was “Trip Week” for our Middle School students. Our 8th graders went to North Carolina for a week of camping and hiking, the 7th graders traveled to Savannah for a Georgia history tour, and our 6th graders went on a one-day adventure to The Rock Ranch. These are so much more than “field trips.” They […]

#Be The One Who Creates

One of the greatest things Brookstone offers its student are the opportunities to have incredible learning experiences outside of the classroom.  The Advance Film Class’s trip to New York City to participate in the All-American High School Film Festival is one such example. It is truly the educational adventure of a lifetime. Students Mackie Amos, Brendan Belman, Mason Gillespie, Avery Holbrook, Ariele Hopf, Camille Hudson, Joseph Kim, and Briggs Kalish, a mix of juniors and seniors,  traveled to New York City last week to compete. Film teacher Dan Quigely, drama teacher Krista Maggart, and college counselor Jon Terrell […]

Football Accolades

Congratulations are in order for senior Josh Fernicola, who was highlighted in the recent edition of In the Game. A competitive spirit is not unusual in athletes. In fact, passion often fuels the drive to succeed in sports. Perhaps a little unusual is when athletes admit to a competitive spirit driving them to succeed in the classroom. Josh Fernicola is a senior at Brookstone School. Last year he participated in three sports for the Cougars and ended his junior year with an impressive 4.74 GPA. Fernicola said he set his […]

All School Parent Book Club Dr. Robert Brooks, author of the book, Raising Resilient Children, will be on campus speaking to faculty and parents in November.  In light of his upcoming visit, the BPA and guidance department have organized a “Stress-Free” Parent Book Club to read the book together. Parents school-wide are invited to join in the discussion […]

Madame President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia

Last Thursday, we had the unprecedented privlege of hosting a world leader, Madame President Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia, on our campus. After all, it’s not every day you host a  Nobel-Peace Prize winner at school. It was a monumental and joyous occasion. As one of our seniors said with utmost sincerity, “This is the biggest and best thing that we have ever had at Brookstone!  It was amazing!” And it was. It was such an honor to have her visit, but even more so to hear her speak. Filled with […]
