It’s Friday! We survived another week! So in honor of the weekend, here’s a look back at some of the great things that happened at Brookstone this week! We started off the week with perhaps a new tradition – the Father/Son basketball game to celebrate the end of the middle school basketball season! What a special opportunity for both the boys and their dads. And I am willing to bet the dads were a little sore the next day! Later in the week, our middle school girls spent time with the intermediate […]
We are quite proud of our alumni around here, if you can’t tell by this blog! So we just have to highlight a little something that arrived in our Upper School office this week: A special edition 50th Anniversary Super Bowl football to honor our very own Mack Strong! Mack, Class of 1989, played in the Super Bowl in 2005 when the Seattle Seahawks battled the Pittsburg Steelers. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2005 and again in 2006. So in honor of the 50th Superbowl, being played this […]
Brookstone has a deep commitment to the professional development of our faculty. And because of that, three of our technology teachers, Becky Kenimer, Julie Sway, and Maria Reed had the opportunity to attend the FETC (Future of Educational Technology) Conference in Orlando earlier this month, where they had the privilege to meet Keynote Speaker, Reshma Saujani founder of Girls Who Code. They were pretty excited about getting to meet Reshma in person, especially since Brookstone is the only school outside of Atlanta to have a Girls Who Code club. And there are only five in Atlanta! […]
What a lovely article in today’s Ledger-Enquirer about senior, Koyal Angsikar and the work she has accomplished as part of her Deliberate Life senior project. I am so proud of this girl and what she has done for the kids at the Open Door Community House! Click here to read more about how she raised money to purchase violins for children in the after school program and is now teaching them to play. In Koyal’s own words, sharing her passion for music with these kids is nothing but pure “joyfulness.” Thank you, […]
Please join us for our Lower and Intermediate School Open House this coming Sunday, January 24th from 2:00-3:30. You’ll have the opportunity to see our beautiful campus, visit our classrooms and meet with students and teachers. Come see for yourself what all the fuss is about! And along those lines – don’t miss the very first every Intermediate School Video Blog! It’s just about the cutest thing I have ever seen! Click the link below and enjoy! These kids (and their teachers!) are just the best!
This post is three weeks behind, so consider it a belated Christmas gift! And it is indeed a gift to share the vision and heart behind two very talented alumni and one precious 5th grade girl. Helen Brooks, Class of 1992, and her family, daughters Mary Helen, 7th grade, Virginia 5th grade and Katie, 2nd grade, have been volunteering at Home is Where the Art Is, an outreach ministry to the homeless community of Columbus. The program is the brainchild of Bo Bartlett, Class of 1974, who has partnered with […]
I love highlighting our alumni who are finding and following their passions. What I love even more about this story is how two Brookstone alums – almost a generation apart – came together. Click here to read the article in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer about how Frank Schley, class of 2008, and Jason Burr, class of 1988, both music aficionados and all around talented guys, have come together to build custom made guitars from wood salvaged from the Chattahoochee river. Talk about preserving history while at the same time giving it new […]
