Graduation is an emotional time for parents. It’s a time of joy and celebration, but it is also marked with wistful reflection over how quickly time goes. This year, one of our faculty members wrote a heartfelt email to her colleagues upon the graduation of her oldest child. It was so beautifully written, I asked her if I could post it here. Thank you, Deana (aka Mama D), my sweet friend, for sharing these kind words with us. We love the Graham family! My friends, After all of the crying […]
We know that there are great things happening at Brookstone School on any given day, but it’s always nice to hear feedback from parents! Below is an excerpt from an email sent to Leigh Anne Floyd, our Lower and Intermediate School Principal, from one of our new families, shared with their permission. Kudos to our teachers and administrators for creating an environment as special as the one here at Brookstone. As a parent, there is nothing more gratifying than to see your child blossom and grow. My son had a […]
This past week was conference day for our Intermediate School students and parents. However, this particular conference is a little bit different because it is led by the students – not the teachers. Full disclosure – this blog is first and foremost written from a parent’s point of view! But suffice it to say, was I impressed. The first thing he did was to welcome us and thank us for coming. Sweet boy. Then he proceeded to review the entire year’s worth of work: his favorite assignments in each subject, his […]
Wednesday, we kicked off graduation week in full swing! It began with our yearbook assembly! Presented to the students by yearbook editor, Sarah Beth Amos, this year’s theme was “Blueprints.” In her remarks, Sarah Beth said, “This year’s theme is “Blueprints”. If you have ever watched the progress of a major construction project, you may know that it starts with a blueprint. A blueprint is defined as photographic print in blue on white; a detailed plan used as a model to provide guidance. That seemed to us to perfectly represent […]
Middle school is one of life’s hardest seasons – even under the best of circumstances. That’s why when walking through the halls this morning, I was struck by the beauty of this simple bulletin board. Who doesn’t need some love, hope, peace, kindness, self-control, or humility? Thank you, Middle School faculty, for fostering an environment such as this. Here’s to more of all of these things flooding the hallways and classrooms of our school!
Several Brookstone students were recognized at the Ledger-Enquirer Page One Awards held at the River Center for Performing Arts this past week. Congratulations are in order for the following winners: Will Byrd, math, Elim Lee, English, Maylyn Hinson, runner-up, foreign language. What an amazing accomplishment for these fine young people. We are so very proud of every single one of our nominees! Thank you for representing Brookstone so well!
Yesterday was a bittersweet day as it was the last day of school for our seniors- barring AP exams. And to celebrate the occasion, they donned t-shirts sporting their college or university choice for the next year! Not everyone is pictured, but it was fun to snap a few! So in the coming months, these kids might be saying, “Go Dawgs,” “War Eagle,” “Go Cavs” or “Go Bobcats,” but they will always be Cougars to us! The Class of 2018 has indeed made us proud and we know great things […]
