I have often told prospective parents that one of my favorite aspects of the lower school curriculum is the writing. And that is first and foremost because I am a parent! And I LOVE to write. So seeing that love passed onto this next generation makes my heart sing. Our curriculum takes writing to a different level. Our students truly understand genre, nuances, point of view, and writing styles. They are being taught how to think as writers every bit as much as they are taught to be readers. […]

Below is a letter from one of our parents, Nancy Peng, to Leigh Anne Floyd, head of the Intermediate School, upon her family’s departure back to China. Dear Mrs. Floyd, It’s so hard for us to say goodbye to Brookstone School! The passed 10 months for Andy and our family are the best memory in our life! I watched Andy’s growth day by day, his progresses are not only at language improvement, furthermore on manner and mindset change. Every teacher gave him most love and encouragement, we still keep every […]

For no other reason than this video brings me great joy, allow me to share! May you leap with joy into the summer months ahead, just like our 8th grade Latin boys!
Often those who work so hard behind the scenes at this school, or anywhere for that matter, fail to receive the thanks they deserve. So allow us to take this opportunity to express our sincerest thanks to the Brookstone Maintenance Crew. They are simply THE BEST. They work tirelessly day after day to ensure our campus is beautiful and in perfect running condition. And truthfully, none of us would be able to do what we do without this fine group of men doing what they do so well. We love you guys and are grateful for all you do! THANK YOU just isn’t enough!
Brookstone’s 2016 Graduation ceremony was as lovely as ever. Not only did the weather turn out to be beautiful, but there was such sweetness to the festivities. Joy, accomplishment, reflection and camaraderie, all of those sentiments and more were palpable in this year’s ceremony. Dr. Frank Brown, interim Headmaster, welcomes the crowd. Student speakers, Cara Hunter and James Sherrer, delivered speeches that reflected upon their Brookstone experiences. Describing his classmates, James said, “We are a group of 81 amazing minds, from so many different backgrounds, and we will be attending […]
Congratulations to our very own Dr. John Harkey, Upper School English teacher, on his recent inclusion in Prelude Magazine. Dr. Jim East, English Department Chair, made the announcement school-wide via email: It pleases the English department mightily to announce that Dr. John Harkey has placed “Floating Shelves” in Prelude Magazine, a nationally recognized journal of poetry and criticism based in New York, printed on line with one yearly print issue. The online poetry journal was awarded the 2016 Pushcart Prize, featured by the Poetry Society of America, called the “Best […]

Congrats to both of these young men! Joel Brown running the hurdles. The women were not to be outdone, finishing eighth in the state as a team, the second highest scoring team from our area. Not to mention, three of […]
