Weather for Writing

Brookstone has the most beautiful campus in Columbus, Georgia hands down. That’s why our teachers get our kids outside as much as possible. After all, who doesn’t get inspiration from such beautiful surroundings! Enjoy these pictures of Mrs. Powers 2nd Grade writers in action. There is nothing more precious than watching these little minds at work! Seeing them outside and soaking it all in…it’s one of the many reasons I am grateful to be at Brookstone. For more precious pictures like these, follow us on Facebook at Brookstone School (Official).

Dueling Emails

At Brookstone, we really are a family, which means we share in our successes and celebrate collectively! It also means there can be a little playful banter back and forth on any given day! To highlight that, see the emails below from two of our amazing highschool teachers, Dr. Belle Harrell and Mr. Jason Quinley. From Dr. Harrell: I just wanted to let everyone know that we had a great day in Macon at the Region Literary Meet!  Our big win was earned by Catherine Cole, who received 1st place […]

Parenting is Tough. Seek Wisdom.

Parenting is tough. No doubt about it. Do you ever feel like you mistake one after another? Or do you ever feel like you have no idea what the right choice is in any given situation? Do you ever simply pray your children grow into responsible, productive members of society IN SPITE of the mistakes you’ve made? Me, too. That’s why we are thrilled to host Dr. Tim Elmore, president of Growing Leaders, next Tuesday, March 8th at 6:00 in the Turner Center. He’s going to talk to us about the […]

College Counseling

College Counseling is one of the greatest things Brookstone does for its families. And I say that as one who has been through it and is currently going through it for the second time! Just look what all they have planned for this month! Mind you, this is just for the month of February. We get one of these every single month with new events, new colleges visits and new reminders! WE ARE SO GRATEFUL! They also announced the TWO college tour visits coming up in the next year – one at […]

Awards Season

The Grammys recently happened and the Oscars are coming soon, so it’s fitting that there are so many awards being won here at school. Congratulations to all of the following students! Connie Tran recently won First Chair in the Oboe and Michael Smith won Second Chair in the French Horn at District 3 Honor Band. 8th Grader, Manav Shaw, was one of the top ten spellers in the GISA regional spelling bee and is advancing onto the GISA district spelling bee in the coming weeks! Every single one of our […]

It’s personal.

It’s admissions season everywhere. Applications, essays, and the like are filling admissions offices in schools across the land. Brookstone is no exception. Our teachers are asked to write recommendations for our students all the time, especially for juniors and seniors applying to college. But here at Brookstone, our teachers really KNOW our students, so it’s a much easier task. It’s still a time-consuming endeavor, but it is certainly easier to write recommendations for students you know well and care deeply about. So when I received this email from one of our teachers, […]

It’s Friday!

It’s Friday! We survived another week! So in honor of the weekend, here’s a look back at some of the great things that happened at Brookstone this week! We started off the week with perhaps a new tradition – the Father/Son basketball game to celebrate the end of the middle school basketball season! What a special opportunity for both the boys and their dads. And I am willing to bet the dads were a little sore the next day! Later in the week, our middle school girls spent time with the intermediate […]

Super Bowl Shout Out

We are quite proud of our alumni around here, if you can’t tell by this blog! So we just have to highlight a little something that arrived in our Upper School office this week: A special edition 50th Anniversary Super Bowl football to honor our very own Mack Strong! Mack, Class of 1989, played in the Super Bowl in 2005 when the Seattle Seahawks battled the Pittsburg Steelers. He was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2005 and again in 2006. So in honor of the 50th Superbowl, being played this […]

Where Fashion and Technology Meet!

Brookstone has a deep commitment to the professional development of our faculty. And because of that, three of our technology teachers, Becky Kenimer, Julie Sway, and Maria Reed had the opportunity to attend the FETC (Future of Educational Technology) Conference in Orlando earlier this month, where they had the privilege to meet Keynote Speaker, Reshma Saujani founder of Girls Who Code. They were pretty excited about getting to meet Reshma in person, especially since Brookstone is the only school outside of Atlanta to have a Girls Who Code club. And there are only five in Atlanta! […]
