Yearbook Assembly and Alumni March

Yesterday morning was one of those mornings that just made you smile. It was one of those times where you remember all the reasons you love this school and how great it is to be a part of it. We started the morning with our annual Yearbook Assembly, where the students unveiled this year’s book, featuring the most beautiful artwork by local artist, Helen Johnson. It is fitting to have a yearbook this gorgeous to celebrate the 50th Edition! To make the morning even more special, the Senior Class chose […]

Senior College Decision Day 2019

As we prepare to launch the Class of 2019 into the world, it is with a heart full of mixed emotions. Joy – because we know how much we know they have to look forward to. We know they are ready. We know they are prepared. And we know they will do great things to better the world around them. But we also know how much they will be missed. And how our world will be a little emptier without them in it every day – without seeing their smiling […]

Celebrating our Military Children

If you had been on campus a few weeks ago in April, you would see have seen our students and faculty decked out in purple! Now Brookstone colors are blue and white, but we donned our purple to celebrate our military kids! Purple Up! April is Month of the Military Child and we want to make sure ours know they are loved and supported! As children of our service men and women, they make sacrifices many of us will never fully understand. And why purple?  Purple is the color that […]

Spring is in the Air!

This past week was spectacular on our campus! The sun was shining, the birds were chirping and everything beautiful about spring was in the air! As we prepared for the annual Spring Arts Festival, our fabulous fine arts department brought art and music outside for everyone to enjoy! So classes of all kinds ventured outdoors, relishing the warmer weather, and learning from the beautiful environment that makes up our campus. It also was time for our third annual Market on the Quad! Gorgeous flowers and delicious homemade goods were on […]

New York Trip to Carnegie Hall

Our students were busy over spring break (more blog posts to follow!) But one trip, in particular, gave some of our Upper School students the chance of a lifetime – the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall! Karen Hearn, Brookstone Music Director, began rehearsing with 16 students in January for the Children of Peace concert held in Carnegie Hall. Hours and hours of rehearsals were held after school to prepare for this performance. The Brookstone students joined with five other schools from New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Florida, and […]

The Buddy Bench

We are so grateful to donors who continue to pour back into our school! Thank you to former parents and now current grandparents, Molly and Claude Scarbrough, who wanted to donate a “Buddy Bench!” The whole idea behind the Buddy Bench is simple – to foster friendships and inclusivity amongst our students! So if a student doesn’t have anyone to play with on the playground, they are to go and sit on the bench and wait! Other students are being taught to take notice and then join their friend on […]

Intermediate School Morning Meeting

The Intermediate School might just be one of the happiest places on campus! This past week, parents were invited to join in on the Morning Meeting to get a glimpse of what their children experience every day. After lots of dancing and singing, announcements were made, accolades were given, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, and a mini spirit competition was held before sending them off to class. Wish I’d been able to start the school day this way! It was awesome! Enjoy!

Grateful Parents!

We know that there are great things happening at Brookstone School on any given day, but it’s always nice to hear feedback from parents! Below is an excerpt from an email sent to Leigh Anne Floyd, our Lower and Intermediate School Principal, from one of our new families, shared with their permission. Kudos to our teachers and administrators for creating an environment as special as the one here at Brookstone. As a parent, there is nothing more gratifying than to see your child blossom and grow. My son had a […]

If the Shoe Fits…

Our third graders recently gave an amazing performance of “If the Shoe Fits!” based on the story of Cinderella. It is one of the cutest plays you’ve ever seen! After the show, one of our third grade teachers received the following email from a parent: My daughter came home this afternoon and was so proud of her performance that she wants to do the Brookstone drama camp and “try out for a bigger role when we do our class play next year.”  What have you done with my shy kid?  […]
