Periodically, we highlight one of our many alums doing extraordinary things! Enjoy this update from Sarah Bufolge Pitzen, Brookstone Class of 2002, currently living in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Sarah Bufolge Pitzen, Class of 2002 University of Georgia – B.S. in Psychology; Minor in Spanish and Art History Eastern Virginia Medical School – M.S. in Art Therapy What are you doing now? I have been with The Up Center, a non-profit human services agency, for the past 8 years serving in various roles but primarily as a Clinical Services Supervisor in the Outpatient Counseling department. We are currently embarking on an exciting adventure as we plan to open a military family clinic in partnership with the Cohen Veterans Network, which was founded by philanthropist Steven A. Cohen. As Lead Clinician, I will oversee a team of clinicians to provide evidence-based therapies to veterans and their family members to treat a variety of mental health problems including PTSD, anxiety, depression, adjustment to civilian life, anger, grief and loss, family dynamics, transitional challenges, relationship problems, and child behavioral problems. The Cohen Veterans Network is anticipating our clinic to be one of the highest utilized clinics of all the CVN clinics across the nation due to the strong military presence in our community. Seniors’ Last Day

Today was the last day of school for our seniors!! And that brings about both tears of joy and wistful reflections. Time just truly goes so fast… Here are some snapshots celebrating their college choices as they anticipate the next chapter of their lives! 2019 Brookstone College Tour

Over spring break, 27 energetic Upper School students joined our two college counselors, Frances Berry and Jon Terrell, for our 18th Annual College Tour. That’s right! 18 years of college tours. That is impressive. Each year, our college counseling office takes a group of students to visit more than a dozen colleges on one of three routes. Spring Break Trip to Oxford, England!

Our students were BUSY over Spring Break! Many were traveling with families or enjoying a staycation at home, but one special group of seniors was able to go on the 19th annual trip to Oxford, England and stay at the Spencer House. The Spencer House on Woodstock Road in Oxford, England is owned by Columbus State University.  The purchase of the house was made possible through the generosity of Mr. & Mrs. J. New York Trip to Carnegie Hall

Our students were busy over spring break (more blog posts to follow!) But one trip, in particular, gave some of our Upper School students the chance of a lifetime – the opportunity to perform in Carnegie Hall! Karen Hearn, Brookstone Music Director, began rehearsing with 16 students in January for the Children of Peace concert held in Carnegie Hall. Field Trip to the Legacy Museum and Equal Justice Initiative

Last week, on Wednesday, November 28th, a number of faculty and 50 students took part on a field trip to Montgomery, AL to visit the Legacy Museum followed by a visit at the Equal Justice Initiative (ELJ). EJI was founded by Bryan Stevenson, author of our 2018 all-school-read Just Mercy. Upper School Club Day!

Upper School Club Day was last week and it was a beautiful day on the quad to hold sign ups! One of the great things about Brookstone is the ability to be involved in a variety of activities! And with over 40 clubs to choose from, from academics to sports to the arts, there truly is something for everyone! Freshman Retreat 2018

We’re a few weeks into school, but we would be remiss not to remember all the fun had at our Freshman Retreat at the start of the year. All of our freshmen load up on buses with their Link Crew Leaders and Advisors and travel three hours north to Camp Mac in Munford, Alabama for three days of team building, fun, and adventure!
