Our students are the coolest! Today the students from the Upper School Applied Leadership class used patterns and old blue jeans to cut out pieces that will be turned into shoes for children in Africa! The pieces our students are cutting will go to an organization called Sole Hope who employs people in the villages of Africa to put the shoes together. It was a great experience for the students and a lot of fun! And it goes without saying that their efforts will bless a whole lot of people. […]
It was such a treat having the All-American High School Film Festival here on campus this past week with their roadshow! This was the festival our Advanced Film Class was a part of in October in New York City. What an awesome experience to bring them here to campus! They held events for both our middle and upper school students that highlighted films submitted by middle and upper school students from around the country. It was an incredible opportunity for our kids to be reminded of the power of this medium. […]
One of the things we are most proud of here at Brookstone is our reading and writing curriculum. Over the last few summers, several teachers from the lower and intermediate schools have traveled to Columbia University in New York to train in their Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project, including 4th grade teacher, Cathy Smith, and 5th grade teacher, Mia Rice. What these teachers bring back to our classrooms is nothing short of amazing. The intermediate school has recently implemented a new part of the reading workshop: reading book clubs. […]
Upper School Biology teacher, Cynthia Lingo, had a surprise visitor last week! Jabez Beazer, Class of 2011, came back to school to share the news that he had just been accepted into Morehouse College School of Medicine. And since Mrs. Lingo had played such a role in his time here at Brookstone, he had to come back and share the news with her in person. I had the privilege of meeting Jabez while he was here visiting with Cynthia and, as I sat and listened to him, I was just […]
The lower school science room is one of my favorite places to visit. It is always full of life, energy, and activity. And teacher Helen Varner, whom is often affectionately referred to as “Ms. Frizzle,” is beloved by all! It’s easy to see why her students love her class so much when you get a glimpse of her enthusiasm for teaching. So, with her permission, I am sharing this email she sent out recently to the Brookstone faculty… I just have to share this science wonderfulness with my Brookstone family… After […]
When it is this beautiful outside, it’s too pretty to eat indoors! What a gift it is to have such a gorgeous campus that allows our students a place for a picnic! Warm sun, fellowship with friends, and delicious food…it is truly a breath of fresh air in more ways than one!
Brookstone has the most beautiful campus in Columbus, Georgia hands down. That’s why our teachers get our kids outside as much as possible. After all, who doesn’t get inspiration from such beautiful surroundings! Enjoy these pictures of Mrs. Powers 2nd Grade writers in action. There is nothing more precious than watching these little minds at work! Seeing them outside and soaking it all in…it’s one of the many reasons I am grateful to be at Brookstone. For more precious pictures like these, follow us on Facebook at Brookstone School (Official).
At Brookstone, we really are a family, which means we share in our successes and celebrate collectively! It also means there can be a little playful banter back and forth on any given day! To highlight that, see the emails below from two of our amazing highschool teachers, Dr. Belle Harrell and Mr. Jason Quinley. From Dr. Harrell: I just wanted to let everyone know that we had a great day in Macon at the Region Literary Meet! Our big win was earned by Catherine Cole, who received 1st place […]
Parenting is tough. No doubt about it. Do you ever feel like you mistake one after another? Or do you ever feel like you have no idea what the right choice is in any given situation? Do you ever simply pray your children grow into responsible, productive members of society IN SPITE of the mistakes you’ve made? Me, too. That’s why we are thrilled to host Dr. Tim Elmore, president of Growing Leaders, next Tuesday, March 8th at 6:00 in the Turner Center. He’s going to talk to us about the […]
