Vocabulary on Parade!

It was a stormy day not long ago, but that did not stop our vocabulary words from being on parade! Spearheaded by Erin Trotter, our Lower School Librarian, the parade was the perfect way to celebrate the month of March – National Reading Awareness Month! Over the course of the month, Mrs. Trotter read The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds to all of the Lower and Intermediate students, which in turn inspired our Wear Your Favorite Word to School Day and Vocabulary Parade.  She knew it would be a wonderful way to highlight the work […]

Flat Bubba Visits the White House

Earlier this year, our first-grade classes hosted a special event to showcase the travels of Flat Bubba – based on the Flat Stanley book series.  And Flat Bubba has been all over the world! They were eager to share in his adventures! But now, we have big news to share! Flat Bubba, who has literally been all over the world this year, has recently returned from his most prestigious trip yet – to the White House! Yes, you read that right, Flat Bubba has just returned from the White House […]

Junior Math Tournament!

Georgia Southwestern State University held their Junior Math Tournament recently. Twenty four students from Brookstone grades 3rd-6th attended and they represented us well! On our 6th grade team, Ankita Nukala placed first, Ava Chang fourth, and Nancy Schley fifth (out of 140). The 5th-grade team held their own in a field of 320, with Weezie Turner finishing in the top 15. Max Lopez took first place for fourth grade. 3rd-grade competition was intense, with the field narrowing from 200 to eight before the last Cougar was eliminated. Congratulations to all […]

Jonathan Rivers Visits Brookstone

We loved having Jonathan Rivers come speak to our school last week. Meeting throughout the day with the entire faculty and all students in grades 4-12, he delivered a powerful message of encouragement and motivation. What a privilege it was to have him here! He was entertaining and inspiring in every way! Once again, I am reminded of how wonderful it is and how grateful I am to be a part of a school community that is committed to personal, professional, and institutional growth. Thank you, Brookstone! It makes all the difference in the world!

Reading Bowl Competition

Congratulations to the Brookstone Middle and Intermediate Reading Bowl teams! They recently competed in the 2019 Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl. Under the expert guidance of Mrs. Stacy Pease and Mrs. Mia Rice, both teams did extremely well. This was only the Middle School’s 4th year to compete, and they finished in third place. They were also the only independent Middle School  to field a team. The Intermediate School team made their mark by answering the most questions correctly in each of their six rounds! Well done, Cougars!   Sutton Hastings, Eve Stinson, […]

To the Ones Before Us

We hope you enjoy the newest Brookstone video. This video highlights some of the amazing things our Brookstone students experience every day. And the greatest part about this video, in my opinion, is the fact that it authentically captures what happens in classrooms, on the stage and on the field. These kids were actually in the classes depicted or the performances highlighted. The students were actually working or practicing or playing while we were filming. It’s 100% true to life, which makes it all the more special. We hope you enjoy this […]

Lower School “Book Tasting”

It was the perfect day for a “Book Tasting!” Today, Mrs. Trotter arranged for our second graders to have a “Book Tasting.” What is that, you might ask? It’s a beautifully set table designed to quickly sample books! The students were invited to sit and read the description of the book at their place and if they were interested in reading it in its entirety, they were to write the name and author on an index card. When the bell rang, they were to move to another spot and pick […]

Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety

Here at Brookstone, we feel it is important to equip our families with tools they need to navigate the various aspects of raising kids, and that often extends beyond academics.  I am grateful for a school that offers educational opportunities for both parents and students on relevant topics that we all deal with on a daily basis. This week, our Guidance Department has hosted a series of screenings of the brand-new documentary, “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety.” Lower and Intermediate School parents were invited to watch together, while students in grades […]

Petra Students Visit Brookstone

It’s been such a treat to host students from our sister school,  Petra School in Zimbabwe, on campus recently. Our partnership with Petra has continued to grow and flourish through the years. We’ve sent student groups there twice and had school administrators here at Brookstone on occasion, as well. This time, it was our turn to host students! Though they were here mostly as tennis players, traveling for intense training and exposure to American coaches, they were also here to visit Brookstone. All of our students who traveled to Zimbabwe in […]
