So much more than great students.

Vector Calculus is a class I never took in high school. I wasn’t a huge math fan when I was growing up, but maybe that’s because I never had Jason Quinley as my teacher. I cannot speak highly enough of our faculty. They truly set the standard for excellence in teaching. Not only do they care passionately about their subject areas, but they care passionately about their students and they go to great lengths to celebrate them both in and out of the classroom. That’s why I simply had to share […]

Thankful…

It’s Thanksgiving season and this year, there are so many reasons to be thankful. We had an amazing Open House where dozens and dozens of people turned out in the pouring rain to learn more about Brookstone. We had an incredible Bring a Friend to School Day with over 100 FRIENDS visiting!  It was awesome! We’ve had a wonderful interim Headmaster, Dr. Frank Brown, who has even stepped in as a substitute teacher on occasion! We celebrated a softball team who made it to the Elite 8 and whose coach, […]

Why Choose Brookstone? Come See for Yourself!

One of the questions I am most often asked as an admissions director is, “WHY Brookstone?” Why choose Brookstone over any other school in the area?  And truthfully, there are so many reasons, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one. But since it is the height of admissions season, this question weighs heavily on the minds of prospective families – “Why Brookstone?” So allow me to share with you the story of how one of our current families made their decision – why they chose Brookstone for their children. Why Brookstone? My family moved to Columbus nine years ago from Atlanta. Our children were in Montessori school, and we loved both the educational method and the level of academics present in our school, and were looking for a similar fit in Columbus. Before we moved here, we did months and months of research on schools; at one point, our dining room table was covered with printed curricula from public, private, and IB educational options. Each time we thought of something that was important to us, we wrote it on a Post-it note and placed the note on the school that best answered our need. Within two weeks, one school rose clearly above the others. My husband toured four very different schools in Columbus. During the campus tour at Brookstone, he separated himself from the group, called me from his cell, and said “I don’t care if we have to live in a trailer, our kids must […]

2015 All American High School Film Festival – New York, NY

There are a lot of reasons I love Brookstone.  Lots. But the experiences Brookstone has given to my children – those top the list.  Those are the reasons we choose to send our kids to Brookstone. So allow me to share the experience my son had last week at the All American High School Film Festival.  I beg forgiveness ahead of time if I sound like an exceedingly proud parent. I am one. Last spring, I wrote about my son’s Studio Productions class. This year, as a junior, he was asked to […]

Hope for Hadley!

It was a particularly wonderful week for one special Brookstone student and her family. Hadley Schoenborn, a Brookstone 3rd grader, received a long-awaited new liver on Sunday, September 13th, and the entire Brookstone family celebrated with her! Hadley was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia soon after she was born and she has been a fighter ever since.  This past Saturday, she got the call – they had a new liver for her.  And after two surgeries, the initial transplant and another one to ensure proper arterial flow, her new liver is settling […]

School is BACK IN SESSION!

Today marks the start of our first full week in school, but there are so many activities happening, you would think we’ve been back for a month or more!  There are too many happenings to highlight, so I encourage you to go to our Facebook Page, Brookstone School (Official) to see all the latest news and photos! However, there is one event that truly sets us apart as a school and that is the Freshmen Retreat.  No other school in the area takes their ENTIRE freshmen class away, along with […]

Alumni Highlights!

As a proud graduate of Brookstone School and now the mother of one, I can tell you one thing, Brookstone alumni are out to leave their mark and make this world a better place.  And nothing gives me more pleasure than to showcase two of our very own that were highlighted in today’s Columbus Ledger-Enquirer. The first is Miss Brian Kalpen, Class of 2015. In January, she won the title of Distinguished Young Woman of Alabama, and just recently finished in the top ten NATIONALLY.  That is pretty remarkable.  Congratulations to you, Bria.  We […]
